Fancourt will open the doors of its new sports and leisure centre next week.
?
With interiors designed around a contemporary sporting theme, the centre has been transformed into a recreational hub for the whole family. Facilities and services include a high-tech gymnasium and indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a poolside caf?, a cinema and Chillout Zone and Kidz Club areas.
?
It will provide new facilities for the growing number of foreign and domestic leisure and business travellers who are accompanied by their families. Equipped with the latest mod-cons, it is an inviting social space where guests of all ages can relax and interact, be entertained or engage in physical activities.
?
During peak holiday season opening hours will be from 06:00 to 21:00, though these will be amended seasonally.
?
Fancourt CEO Kerrin Titmas says: ?Along with our world-class accommodation, gourmet cuisine, and warm and caring hospitality, relaxation and fun is integral to the Fancourt guest experience. The vision for the upgraded Sports and Leisure Centre is to offer our guests a ?one-stop-shop?, with exactly the right combination of amenities, apparatus and activities to meet their expectations.
?
?The expansion of the Sports and Leisure Centre is in line with Fancourt?s overall strategy to focus more broadly on its family and lifestyle offering, to enhance our multi-faceted leisure facilities, and bring us on par with the best in the world.?
?
Fancourt was recently named among the world?s 10 Best Golf Resorts on CNNgo, the online travel hub of CNN.
?
Spanning two levels, with interiors designed by Ping Piccolo, who was also the creative force behind the homes of Fancourt owners Hasso and Sabine Plattner, the spacious indoor areas use green, grey and brown colours to draw in the surrounding landscape.
?
The sure and deft touch and vision of Titmas is evident in the overall concept, while the revamp of the building followed the lead of architect Chris Kleu of Munnik Visser.
?
On the upper level, parents may drop off their little ones at the Kidz Club which is supervised by ?trained staff, or take time out in the lounge area while they keep an eye on their young ones themselves.
?
The Kidz Club area is equipped with board games, an indoor jungle gym, doll?s house and an arts and crafts station. It leads out into a playground also with a jungle gym, sea-saws and a slide. The cloakroom area has toilets and washbasins designed for children.
?
Also on the upper level is the Chillout Zone, a venue where the whole family can eat and relax together, while catching up on emails or?updating their social media status. Here teens can play pool or table tennis or computer games, or relax on the couches or beanbags to watch sport on the big screen.
?
The cinema will not only screen the latest movie releases, but is a great venue to enjoy a private screening of an important match or event. Its sprung wooden floors make it an ideal space for parties or dinner and dance functions.
?
On the lower floor, a heated indoor swimming pool will be open every day. Water aerobics classes will offer a low-impact workout.
?
At the outdoor pool?s new Poolside Caf? guests will be able to order light meals and beverages, seated either at tables or comfortable sunloungers on the terrace, or indoors in the Chill area. During off-peak hours it will function as a kiosk where guests may buy snacks and cold beverages.
?
The new gymnasium, previously located adjacent to the Fancourt Spa, has tripled in size and now occupies a large section of the lower level, to accommodate a wider spectrum of cardio and weight-bearing equipment. It has Technogym equipment and a separate aerobics studio, as well as locker rooms, saunas and a lounge area.
?
Fancourt has three Gary Player-designed golf courses.
?
Other attractions on the 613ha estate include horse riding, picnics, walks and hikes that can be arranged on request. Among the outdoor pursuits are three scenic and signposted leisure trails that wind through the property, and a new Mountain Bike Trail. Mountain bikes are also available for hire at the Sports and Leisure Centre.
?
The Western Cape?s Minister of Tourism, Alan Winde, has congratulated Fancourt on being in the list of top 10 golf resorts that also includes:?Pinehurst, USA;?Kiawah, USA;?Pebble Beach, USA;?The American Club, USA;?The Old Course Hotel ? St Andrews, Scotland;?The K-Club, Ireland;?Sotogrande, Spain;?Mission Hills, China; and?Quinta do Lago, Portugal.
According to CNNgo, Fancourt was chosen because of its?three great golf courses,?luxurious accommodation, great dining and its location in the?Garden Route.
Winde said: ?Hearty congratulations to Fancourt. This accolade bears testament to the hard work put in by the staff at Fancourt in delivering a world-class venue.?Fancourt has in the past played host to international golf tournamanets such as the President?s Cup, the South African Open and the Volvo Golf Champions Tournament. International events such as these pour revenue not only to the host venue itself but also the surrounding communities and businesses.
?This is the second time this year CNN has listed a destination in the Western Cape as one of the best in the world. Earlier this year, Cape Town was listed by CNN as one the best-loved cities in the world. The international exposure that such accolades give to our destination is priceless,? Winde added.
